Tucson Footprints: Sixth Exposure

Volunteer excavations by Pima County, SWCA Enviromental Consultants and Archaeology Southwest continue to expand on the Early Agricultural Period recording of footprints and farming from 2500+ years ago. This is a low resolution model of the exposed deposit after last Sunday’s excavations. The exposure now clearly shows 2 complete planting cells bounded by 3 irrigation canals. For the first time, we can see direct evidence of how the ingenious irrigation system was managed by simply pushing then earthen berms to form small dams to direct water into the planting cells. We have also seen our first impression of a sandal instead of a bare foot. These models are coming soon.
