Escultura de Jaguar, protoclásico 100 a.C-100 d. C. Cultura Zapoteca. El Jaguar fue un animal muy reverenciado en Mesoamérica, en Monte Albán tuvo una importancia relevante. Se ha propuesto que el nombre prehispánico de esta ciudad pudo ser ‘Cerro del Jaguar’. En esta obra se presenta un jaguar juvenil a escala natural, el paño que lleva al cuello muestra cierta domesticación. Al sagrado felino se le vinculaba con el linaje de los gobernantes, el poder, la guerra, la fertilidad, la noche y las cuevas.
