Bugler’s Scarlet Frock c1913

Bgr S J Drewett, 2nd Bn DCLI, embellished with ‘wings’ and ‘crown and inch’ lace around cuffs and shoulder straps. Stand collar, slightly rounded in front, white superfine cloth bound with buglers lace (white with red crowns) on front and top edges. Seven General Service buttons, down front. One General Service button diameter securing each shoulder strap. Brass belt support on each side of waist. Two service chevrons on lower part of left sleeve. Bugler’s wings, scarlet serge. Edged top and bottom with samedrummer’s/bugler’s lace. Five bars of similar lace across each wing at 45 degrees. Red and white worsted fringe on lower edge. Loop to go over shoulder strap on top edge. This uniform is devoid of ordinance marks and is thought to perhaps have been made a local Chinese tailor in Hong Kong where Bugler Drewett was serving at the time.This item originates from the collection at Bodmin Keep Musuem, Cornwall, UK.
