Mi-8 (V-8, product number “80”, NATO codification: Hip – “Bed”) is a Soviet / Russian multipurpose helicopter developed by the Mil Design Bureau in the early 1960s. The most massive twin-engine helicopter in the world (more than 12 thousand built), is included in the list of the most massive helicopters in the history of aviation. It is widely used in more than 50 countries around the world for a variety of civil and military tasks. Mi-8 helicopters, as a rule, have a dual purpose, as indicated in the type certificate; in Russia, military-purpose helicopters can only be sold by the state-owned company Rosoboronexport, which is part of the Rostec corporation.
