Denali National Park was home to a lush forest ~70 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. The remains of this forest are preserved as fossil branches of Metasequoia (dawn redwood), Equisetum (horsetail) stems, fern fronds, cycad foliage, and leaves from ginkgo trees, sycamore-like trees, alder-like shrubs, and other plants. Not all plant fossils that can be seen on this specimen have been highlighted or annotated. This 3-D fossil image is available courtesy of Denali National Park and Preserve.
