La locomotora de vapor “Varela de Montes”, una de las joyas del Museo del Ferrocarril de Asturias, fue construida en 1881 en Alemania para la compañía de los Ferrocarriles de Asturias Galicia-León. Fue destinada, junto con sus hermanas, a prestar servicio en las líneas de esta compañía, incluyendo el puerto de Pajares, que precisamente inauguraron dos locomotoras de este modelo
