My entry for the hand-painted storybook scene challenge https://sketchfab.com/blogs/storybook-challenge/ I wanted to illustrate a very familiar scene from Emil i Lönneberga (series of children’s novels by Astrid Lindgren). I took inspiration from the original illustrations by Björn Berg. I’m mostly familiar with the films and took some elements from there.Emil is a well-meaning kid who often gets in trouble for unintentionally causing trouble. He hides in the tool shed until his father’s rage unwinds. While he waits he likes to carve a wooden figure to pass the time. Ultimately Emil ends up having 369 of them.I must say I’m quite satisfied with the end result. I was feeling unmotivated and this really helped me get up and get to work. I think my favorite part was designing all those figures. There are 44 of them. With the edge effect I tried to show what it feels like to forget everything around you. The hand-painted textures sure were a challenge but I’m glad I did it!
