The Årby boat was a burial boat found near Rasbo in Sweden in 1933. A person of undetermined sex, along with their belongings and the boat’s oars, was found lain to rest inside it. A horse and a dog were buried alongside. The grave had already been plundered, probably in antiquity, as all the metal objects were missing. It is clear the boat had been well used, as it had signs of patches and repairs on its hull. A small boat, it only had one pair of oars and was probably mainly used on rivers and lakes. It has been dated to between 850-950 CE. The remains are currently visible at the Swedish National Museum of Antiquities in Stockholm. The museum also published a monograph on the boat in 1993 titled “The Årby Boat”, edited by Carl Olof Cederlund.Length: 4m Breadth: 1m
